Shine's volunteer advocates work directly with victims of domestic abuse in Auckland only . Volunteer Advocates either do callouts to victims' homes during evenings (in pairs) and weekends or support victims by phone from Shine's office during office hours. If you are interested, please fill in the form further down on this page, and we will be in touch.
Callouts to victims at home or in hospital are in response to urgent referrals from Auckland City Police and Auckland hospitals. Shine's Advocates visit the victim to offer immediate support, risk assessment and safety planning. Our office-based Volunteer Advocates are rostered onto shifts during office hours at our main office in Kingsland, to work alongside staff Advocates. Shifts are 3-4 hours long.
All Volunteer Advocates receive comprehensive training as well as ongoing support and supervision. Volunteer Callout Advocates receive field training and support during/after completing classroom training. Office-based volunteers are supported and supervised by experienced senior staff.
Our Volunteer Advocates are adult women from all cultures, communities and age groups. Again, if you're interested, please fill out the form below.
